NASA SEWP Contract Considered “Great Example” of Public/Private Partnership.

In a recent article for Washington Technology, author Mark Hoover interviewed Brian Haney, vice president of client services for Deltek FedFocus, who lauded a number of governmental contracts that will continue to reshape that market, including the NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement. Sword & Shield holds a SEWP IV contract.

The next market-moving opportunity is NASA’s Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement V (SEWP V). In Haney’s opinion, the SEWP contract is “possibly one of the greatest examples of true public and private partnership.”

It’s a contract generally for computer equipment, and therefore, “there isn’t much distinction between the top incumbents and the next few,” he said. “Work tends to be evenly spread among the contract holders.”

There are 52 incumbents for this contract, with the top four being World Wide Technology Inc., CDW, GTSI and Sword & Shield.

As for its value, it’s worth roughly $10.5 billion over seven years, Haney said.

Free Gartner Group Magic Quadrant – Secure Email Gateways 2012

Gartner GroupGartner Group Magic Quadrant for Secure Email Gateways 2012

The secure email gateway market is mature. Buyers should focus on strategic vendors, data loss prevention capability, encryption and better protection from targeted phishing attacks.

The secure email gateway (SEG) market is defined by solutions that provide enterprise message transfer agent (MTA) capabilities, offer protection against inbound and outbound email threats (such as spam, phishing attacks and malware), and satisfy outbound corporate and regulatory policy requirements. SEG solutions can be offered in the form of software or appliances that go on customer premises, hosted solutions that reside in solution providers’ data centers, multitenancy software as a service (SaaS) that exists in multiple data centers around the globe, or a combination of these — often referred to as a hybrid deployment. Unified threat management (UTM) devices that combine firewalls with some spam filtering are not included in this market.

Sword & Shield offers email gateways from Barracuda Networks and Websense. Choose from a traditional self-hosted deployment or cloud-based options. If you need a managed service we offer solutions from IBM/ISS and SecureWorks.

Free Gartner Group Report: Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection 2012

Check PointThe Gartner Group has a new Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection, released September 6, 2012. The report focuses on securing data that resides on storage devices with high mobility:

In the mobile data protection (MDP) market, Gartner tracks software utilities that enforce confidentiality policies by encrypting data, and then managing access to that encrypted data on the primary and secondary storage systems of end-user devices. The market primarily serves devices that are mobile in design and use case, even though the market originated earlier than laptops. Storage systems include the primary boot drive of a workstation and removable devices used for portability. Storage technologies affected by MDP products include magnetic hard-disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), flash drives and optical media. Some vendors may be able to set policies for network storage, but that is not core to the current definition.

Check Point, McAfee, and Sophos are in the Leaders quadrant. The report is available at Check Point’s site with free registration.

Sword & Shield Places 132 on CRN’s Solutions Provider 500 List

Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, Inc. continues its streak on the Solutions Provider 500 list for the sixth year in a row by placing No. 132 on the elite roster.

Formerly known as the VAR 500, the UBM Channel’s CRN Solution Provider 500 ranks the highest producing solution provider organizations in the IT channel from hardware sales, software sales, and managed IT services.

The Solution Provider 500 ranking is based on revenue size, and considers each company’s forward-thinking approach to the channel. In particular, the Solution Provider 500 selection panel sought to recognize companies that build practices around data centers and virtualization while offering software integration and application development.

Revenue size is determined by the amount of annual products and services sold over the course of 2011.  Companies with no public documentation were required to submit a notarized affidavit attesting to their 2010 and 2011 revenues.

Sword & Shield’s gross revenue rose from $139.1 million in 2010 to $142.6 million in 2011.
