Sword & Shield Wins the Small Business Excellence Award

Sword & Shield was awarded the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 Pinnacle Award for Small Business Excellence thanks to the hard work and dedication of the people associated with the company, says Sword & Shield President and CEO John McNeely.

“We are very appreciative to the Knoxville Chamber and the members of the Pinnacle Awards Committee for recognizing Sword & Shield in Small Business Excellence. To be selected from such an accomplished and distinguished group of finalists is truly an honor,” McNeely said. “This award recognizes the value of excellence in business and this achievement would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of so many associated with Sword & Shield.

“As a small business we have certainly had our share of struggles through the years along with some great successes,” he said. “It is very satisfying to be honored with this award and to count it among our corporate success stories. In being recognized with the Small Business Excellence Award, the staff at Sword & Shield can be proud of their efforts at making this a great company.”

The Small Business Excellence Award honors a small business with 50 or fewer employees that has consistently grown its work force and revenue and has overcome obstacles, including access to capital, operational efficiency, control of expenses, customer loyalty and distribution.  Sword & Shield reported a 5,570 percent increase in revenue since 2001 and has increased its work force from 12 to 33.

The Pinnacle Awards are considered the Chamber’s highest honor recognizing the best in business. Awards were announced at a ceremony Friday at the Knoxville Convention Center. In addition to the Small Business Excellence Award, the chamber gives out Pinnacle Awards for eight other categories, including the Young Entrepreneur Award, the Impact Award and the Innovator Award.
