Sword & Shield Chief Named to Leadership Knoxville Class of 2014
We are proud to announce that Sword & Shield President and CEO John McNeely is one of 48 area leaders who has been selected to participate in the Leadership Knoxville class of 2014.
Leadership Knoxville, founded 30 years ago, is made up of leaders who represent numerous professions, geographic parts of the community and region, and an array of civic activities. Participants are selected based on demonstrated leadership and commitment to the betterment of the community.
McNeely was the first person to join Sword & Shield Enterprise Security after it was founded in 1997 by James Goldston in Goldston’s garage. Goldston and McNeely, together, established the basis for a security-focused Knoxville business. Since that time, the company has grown into a $123 million company and has won several awards, including the Small Business Excellence Pinnacle Award, eight straight years on the Inc. 500/5000 list and several years on the Solutions Provider 500 list. McNeely was president of the 2012-2013 Entrepreneur’s Organization of East Tennessee and served on the Virginia College board of advisors for network engineering.
Leadership Knoxville is a 10-month experience that is transformational for both participants and the organizations they lead. Through comprehensive learning and hands-on experiences, participants fully explore issues ranging from government, arts, education, and economic development and others, while discovering our community’s greatest challenges and opportunities. With the benefit of new perspectives and connections, participants are better prepared as effective community leaders.
The program was founded in 1985 by the Knoxville Chamber, United Way and Junior League to strengthen networks of leaders from all parts of our community, acquainting participants more thoroughly with the greater Knoxville area and challenging them to accept greater responsibility for our community’s future.
