Sword & Shield is the Federal Government’s Top Insider Threats Prevention Partner

Insider Threats Prevention PartnerKNOXVILLE – Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, Inc. is the federal government’s top insider threats prevention vendor, according to an independent Bloomberg Government (BGOV) news analysis published Thursday.

From 2012 to 2016, Sword & Shield posted more than $531 million in insider threat market obligations, beating out such competitors as Booz Allen Hamilton, Hewlett Packard and Northrop Grumman, the analysis shows.

BGOV defined an insider threat market as any government agency that buys user authentication, employee monitoring and intrusion mitigation hardware, software and services. The news organization used more than 115 keywords for programs, products and concepts, including “continuous monitoring,” “user monitoring,” and “security information and event management,” in their research.

The federal government uses several contract vehicles to purchase hardware, software and support for insider threats. The Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigations program, a services contract, was the largest contract in fiscal 2016. The NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) IV and V and FirstSource II are primarily hardware vehicles and are also used extensively by federal procurement officers.

Sword & Shield conducted 99 percent of its fiscal 2012 through 2016 prime contracting work on SEWP IV and V, the Bloomberg article says.

The company has long held federal government contracts, but has recently opened its own federal division – Sword & Shield Federal – as a result of growing federal IT security products and services needs.

“Whether by accident, negligence or ill intent, insider threats present a real danger to federal agencies and battling them requires an intentional approach,” said Sword & Shield Federal Vice President Raymond Kahre. “At Sword & Shield Federal, we partner with government and industry to design and implement the right solutions to minimize the risk that insider threats pose to agencies.”

In 2015, Sword & Shield was awarded both the NASA SEWP V and the National Institutes of Health Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center’s Chief Information Officer – Commodity and Solutions (CIO-CS) contracts to provide technology products and services to federal agencies. Each contract has a $20 billion ceiling and a potential 10-year ordering period.
