Sword & Shield Enterprise Security Helping to Raise $4,200 for Laundry Love: Knoxville

Leading national cybersecurity firm aims to help raise money to support local program designed to ease the burden of laundry care for struggling families Laundry Love Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – May 9, 2017 – Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, a leading national cybersecurity firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, is sponsoring Laundry Love: Knoxville, in cooperation with Knoxville Pays It Forward, which hosts a free laundry event from 6-8 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Super Wash House, located at 3909 Western Avenue.

The monthly Laundry Love: Knoxville event at Super Wash House owned by Bob Jesse, provides quarters, detergent and fabric softener for up to three loads of laundry per family. The event is more than just doing laundry—as Laundry Love: Knoxville also provides a light meal, fun activities for the kids, and friendly conversation while the laundry tumbles.

Laundry Love: Knoxville was co-founded by long-time friends Kevin White and Garland Pope in cooperation with Knoxville Pays It Forward. White and Pope were involved with several volunteer organizations and decided they wanted to start something unique to help out their community.

“When people think about donating time or money to a cause, laundry isn’t the first thing that comes to mind,” said White, who is also a client development manager at Sword & Shield Enterprise Security. “But it can make a real difference in a person’s life—from the kid who shows up to school in dirty clothes to a person trying to look presentable for a job interview.”

Sword & Shield will be sponsoring the month of May, which also coincides with Laundry Love: Knoxville’s one year anniversary. In addition to volunteering at the event, Sword & Shield will be working to increase awareness in order to reach a goal of $4,200 in donations to help cover the cost of laundry and meals for the rest of 2017 so that White and Pope can focus their efforts on expanding the program.

“Clean clothes are something most of us take for granted,” said John McNeely, president and CEO of Sword & Shield Enterprise Security. “We’re happy to be partnering with Laundry Love: Knoxville to help create a positive experience for those who need it.”

“We end up doing about 100 to 120 loads of laundry each event, and we provide about 75 to 100 meals,” said White. “A lot of families or single parents bring their kids, so we not only give them free laundry and a meal, but also help entertain the kids for the evening. We offer the service to anyone who walks in, no questions asked.”

For their second year, Laundry Love: Knoxville is hoping to grow their volunteer and donor base to provide the experience for even more people in the Knoxville community.

“We’ve had such great support this past year,” said Garland Pope, co-founder of Laundry Love: Knoxville. “We’re constantly growing our roster of volunteers, but what we really need is help with paying for the loads of laundry every month. It costs about $20 to sponsor a family with three loads of laundry, and we’d love the opportunity to cover the costs for the rest of the year so we can focus on creating a second monthly event in another Knoxville location to help even more families in need.”
